![]() It was very cool to have a mouse-fart load though. 224 inch COAL: 2.200 inches: Be Alert: Publisher cannot be responsible for errors in published load data. The gun kind of rattles a bit when it goes off. .223 Remington Subsonic Loads (Hodgdon data) Warning Case: Winchester Twist: 1:12 inches Barrel: 24 inches Trim: 1.750 inches Primer: Winchester SR, Small Rifle Diameter. ![]() It works, doesn’t cycle the rifle but it’s quiet. To load subsonic (under 1100 fps) you will be hard pressed to get enough gas to cycle the action. I tried 3.1 grains of Titegroup under a Nosler 69. Right now it is just a way to fight the summer heat doldrums. I looked on the Hogden site and found a subsonic load: 3.1 grains of Titegroup and a 55 grain bullet. I don't know how motivated I am to pursue this type of development if I need to find components other than what I already have. I can get a 60gr bullet to stabilize out of a 1-9 twist barrel at subsonic, so 10gr over a 22lr. Good To Go 223 Subsonic ammunition is designed to operate at speeds less than the speed of sound, which avoids the bullet making a supersonic shockwave or crack as it travels. You are basically using small amounts of pistol powders not the rifle powders you have for those velocities. Many other people are using Trailboss as a powder as it has more volume to it to fill the case capacity better. There are subsonic 223 loads listed on hodgdons website. 223 Subsonic Ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, boxer primed, re-loadable brass. I already have 68gr Hornady Match bullets but don't know if that is heavy enough to get my action to cycle. Since keeping the bullet subsonic is a fixed factor the only variable to develop enough pressure to cycle the action is by using a heavier bullet. From my research on the subject instead of working charges from low to high this type of development works in the other direction as the concern is more about making sure that the bullet has sufficient velocity to clear the barrel. I'll probably revisit this project with a 68gr bullet to see if it gets more response out of the action. We worked it up to 3.4gr but still didn't hit the advertised 1046fps. Charge weight in grams and grains as well as muzzle velocity in meters and feet per second. I use magnum primers as I read somewhere that they help with reliable ignition with so little powder in the case. Quote:case: Lake City Surplus, previously firedĬharge Weight Tested: 4 grains to 14 grains. The Hodgon website shows 3.1gr of Titegroup but you need to confirm you own load data, as always. 223 and 50-55gr bullets I would start at 4gr N310 and reduce the load until you're subsonic / happy with velocity. Here is his original load data that I saved and used. I went heavier than he did as he stopped at 55 grains IIRC. Anyone have information on subsonic loads for 223/5.56 using H4895 or other powders with 65gr/69gr/75gr bullets for use suppressed I know H4895 has been the Military's main powder since WWII and heard that it works well with under charged loads and less than 1,000fps. Loads, there is a member on the Accurate Reloading Forums named Seafire, his data is the data I started out with and it works well since that time I have used his initial load development for loading a wide range of bullets. ![]() Give Blue Dot and Red Dot a try, both work really well for reduced 223. Subsonic 223 loads - 223 / 5.56 / 9mm reload central database Subsonic 223 loads Subsonic and reduced 223 reloads with discussion on effectiveness and focus on use with suppressors (Probably a little dated as it does not mention ballistic tip bullets. I have been loading and shooting subsonic for years in a 223. ![]()
